What causes Balanitis?

Balanitis can be caused by:

  • Poor Hygiene: Bacteria and fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, particularly under the foreskin.

  • Infections: Yeast infections (Candida), bacterial infections, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can cause balanitis.

  • Skin Irritation: Harsh soaps, scented lotions, or certain fabrics can irritate the skin.

  • Medical Conditions: Diabetes increases the risk of balanitis due to higher sugar levels in urine, which can encourage bacterial growth.

  • Allergic Reactions: Some personal care products or latex condoms may trigger inflammation.
